Gary Paulsen's slapstick tales capture the "wonderful madness" of growing up in a small town in northern Minnesota, when high spirits, showing off for girls, and general idiocy led Gary and his pals to attempt some amazing stunts, including
- Shooting a waterfall in a barrel
- Breaking the world speed record on skis
- Hang gliding with an army surplus target kite
- Inventing the skateboard
- Jumping a bike through a hoop of fire
- Wrestling - with a bear?
Wacky, daring, just plain nuts - extreme sports lead to extreme fun in new stories from Gary's boyhood.

This is a great little book. Funny, funny, funny. I first read this book as a bedtime story for my kids. It isn't a children's book, per se, but it certainly is OK as one. It was so funny I almost couldn't read it - I was laughing so hard I could hardly breath. The book is a series of short stories, the first of which has the same title as the book. I recently bought the book again in its Kindle edition and read aloud the first story to my now college age daughter and her friend who had not heard it - it is still funny!Product details

How Angel Peterson Got His Name And Other Outrageous Tales about Extreme Sports (Audible Audio Edition) Gary Paulsen Patrick Lawlor Brilliance Audio Books Reviews
I really liked this book, because it was funny and crazy and definitely exceeded my expectations. I liked how the author almost always found a way to take the worst case scenario into the next level. The ridiculousness was entertaining and I like how there was a bit of background on each character in the chapters, so you feel like you get to know them a bit better.
Gary Paulsen is a great author. I only gave this one four stars because this one was a little thin on material. It had a first person "feel", but not as strong of a voice as "Liar, Liar" or "Flat Broke". I don't say anything about the story, because I'm not a spoiler - but trust me all of these three books are ones not to miss.
My son could not stop laughing reading this book. It was on his 5th grade books to read list and he loved it. Quick read too!
My husband is still laughing when he thinks of scenes in this. The adventures boys have are quite entertaining...to read. Thank you, Mr. Paulsen, for the laughs.
If you did stupid things growing up, you'll love this book! We've re-read it multiple times and have given it as "gifts". DON'T let your teenagers read it - they might get some ideas! We've never laughed so hard at a book as we have at this one.
was on my daughter's summer reading list for school, unfortunately she said it's a boring book
I know people thought I had lost my mind as I was laughing hysterically at my phone!! The author's depictions of these endeavors lets the reader "see" the action-and it is too funny!
